Real-Time Pitch Detection
Powered by the YIN algorithm — fast, accurate, and reliable.
Nixie Display
The detected note is shown in a vintage Nixie-tube style display — warm, readable, and unmistakable. Shows note name, octave, and accidentals.
VU Meter
A classic analog VU meter shows your deviation in cents from the target pitch. Visual states: IN TUNE (green), FLAT (left), SHARP (right).
Frequency Display
See the exact frequency in Hz alongside the cents deviation. Configurable sensitivity from 5 to 50 cents for different practice scenarios.
Historical Temperaments
Go beyond 12-TET and explore how music was really meant to sound.
Equal Temperament
FreeThe modern standard: 12 equally spaced semitones. Every interval is a compromise, but it works in all keys. Used by most musicians today.
Just Intonation
StudioPure intervals based on natural harmonic ratios. The major third rings pure, the perfect fifth is crystalline. Select a tonic and mode (major/minor) to hear the difference.
Pythagorean
StudioBuilt entirely from stacked perfect fifths (3:2 ratio). Brilliant for melodic passages, with wide major thirds. The tuning system used in medieval and early Renaissance music.
Educational Comparison
Vivaldi includes interactive educational sheets that show the deviation curves for each temperament. See exactly how many cents each note differs between temperaments, understand WHY these differences matter, and hear them in context. A deviations panel shows Hz deviation for every note in the selected temperament.
Configuration
Customize the tuner for your instrument and needs.
A4 Reference
430 Hz to 450 Hz. Standard 440 Hz or tune to your ensemble's pitch.
Transposition
Per-instrument override. Bb clarinet, Eb sax, F horn — all handled automatically.
Mic Presets
Optimized sensitivity for your instrument type: flute, sax, clarinet, trumpet, voice, generic.
Sensitivity
5-50 cents range. Tight for final tuning checks, loose for practice sessions.
Audio Recording
Record your tuning sessions with synchronized pitch data. Every recording captures:
- Raw audio (full quality)
- Pitch data with timestamps (Hz, cents, note)
- Waveform visualization
- Session metadata (instrument, temperament, date)
All recordings are saved to your Studio and can be accessed from the Recordings tile. Review your intonation over time, track your progress, and share with your teacher.
Recording count is shown at the top of the Tuner view for quick access to your latest session.
